Panama City Beach is not short on golf courses. If you're looking for a golf course with enough bite to challenge you, yet is approachable, fun and aesthetically pleasing, then Hombre is where you'll want to play! Designed by Wes Burnham in 1989, Hombre consists of three very different nine-hole courses giving players a different look on each of the nines. It's one of the most interesting golf courses in the Southeast. With the names The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the nines can be played in differing 18-hole combinations.

The original 18 holes (Bad and Ugly) annually host golfing professionals for the second-level stop of the PGA Qualifying School and was a tour venue for the Nike and Ben Hogan Tours. Skillfully routed through the natural environment, Hombre offers a brilliant blend of holes, ranging from a reserve-like style to those with more of a walk-in-the-park feel. Water is a major component of the design, and there are plenty of hazards requiring accurate tee shots and exceptional shotmaking approaches to thought-provoking greens. Creatively designed and built through a collection of wetlands and marshland, Hombre is also home to an assortment of palm trees, majestic oaks, towering pines and an indigenous landscape that is scenic and challenging. In fact, the course will challenge every aspect of your game, and you better be willing to use nearly every club in the bag.

Fear of water won't serve you well as it comes into play on most of the 27 holes. But the holes have been so skillfully laid out that players have a number of options on how to play each one. Hit your ball in the wrong place and recovery will be difficult. So remember, "They never move the middle; it's always in the same place." Hombre is a "must play" golf course but is not for the faint of heart. It's important to coordinate your playing ability with the correct set of tees. If you're going to play from the back tees, you should carry a single digit handicap because the course will serve up all you can handle. But if you're not an accomplished golfer and choose the proper teeing grounds, you'll love the challenges presented.

Hombre has four sets of tees that allow golfers to choose the level of difficulty that best fits their game and handicap. On the original 18 holes the course plays from 5,369 yards (senior tees) to 6,800 yards (championship tees) for the men while the ladies yardage is a stimulating 4,843. Depending on the combination of nines chosen, the rating/slope can vary from 74.4/144 to 67.5/123. Choose your tees and clubs wisely, and you'll know that you experienced a great golf course when finished. Anyone wishing to experience better golf or ensure their equipment is a proper fit will do well to visit the Academy at Hombre Golf club. Hombre features excellent facilities, a challenging but fun golf course and a good practice facility all at a very reasonable price.
