Beach Duck
Having fun above and below the water’s surface is the theme of this week’s episode, when avid outdoorsmen enjoy a “cast and blast” in Panama City Beach. Host Justin Leake and local waterfowl guide Todd Jones have their guests seeing red – redhead ducks in the morning and redfish in the afternoon!
The adventure starts before daylight with deployment of decoys and creation of a blind to provide all-important cover. Once concealed, Jones breaks out his duck call and it doesn’t take long for redheads and buffleheads to arrive. The birds are at the end of their southerly migration and, after navigating down the major rivers, arrive at the Gulf of Mexico and then make their way to the bays surrounding Panama City Beach.
Later, the group trades shotguns for spinning tackle and heads for the pass connecting St. Andrew Bay to the gulf. Live pinfish on drop shot rigs prove to be the perfect combination and some nice bull redfish soon give our anglers all the fight they can handle.
