Structure + Birds = FUN!

Chasin’ The Sun kicks off the second half of the 2018 season with an all-new episode, “Structure + Birds = Fun!” Co-host Justin Leake teams up with fellow Panama City Beach fishing guide Jordan Todd, who brings along his trusty companion Murphy, a Labrador retriever that accompanies him on most of his chartered trips.

The combination of sunshine, warming water and high barometric pressure gives the anglers reason to be optimistic. Massive schools of baitfish are near the surface, pushed there by scores of hungry redfish below.  Locating hotspots can be as easy as watching the sky. “Find the birds and you find the fish,” says Todd, referring to areas where pelicans bomb the baitfish from above. The anglers ease up to an active bait ball and what follows is a sight fishing bonanza that excites even these seasoned guides.

When the surface feeding ends, Leake and Todd shift tactics and search deep water near bridge pilings.  Using side scan sonar technology, they locate redfish holding in 25 feet of water and bring some trophies to the surface within minutes. Their dilemma:  too many fish and only two fishermen!

Finally, co-host Travis Holeman joins Justin for a look at what makes Islamorada Boatworks’ Morada 24 the perfect vessel for bridging the gap between inshore and offshore fishing in Panama City Beach.
