Episode One

We pay tribute to the late Capt. Travis Holeman and then look to the future in Chasin’ The Sun’s season seven premiere episode. Travis, who co-hosted Chasin’ The Sun for four years prior to his death in May 2021 due to complications from COVID-19, was constantly curious and genuinely eager to share his unique perspective on the relationship between humans and the marine environment. “The self-discovery in fishing is what makes it interesting for me,” says Travis in one of several clips from his appearances on the show.

Returning for another season as host is Capt. Justin Leake, a lifelong resident of Bay County and full-time fishing guide offering charter trips with Panama City Inshore, his professional guide service. In the season opener, Justin welcomes professional fly angler Meredith McCord to Panama City Beach. Based in Houston, Texas, McCord travels the world in search of trophy catches and has set more than 200 world records in various species and line class categories during her stellar career.

Meredith is challenged to get out of her comfort zone and try chasing tarpon on conventional spinning tackle. Will her skills on the fly transfer to success with a spin?

Later, Justin meets up with old friend and redfish tournament angler Fred Meyers for an afternoon of talkin’ trash and chasin’ silver kings. Meyers teases Justin about his fancy knot tying skills but doesn’t hesitate to put his faith in the knot that might prove crucial in securing an acrobatic tarpon.
