Visit Panama City Beach is pleased to announce the headliners for its’ third annual Chasin’ the Sun Music Festival, bringing classic beach music to a free concert held on Sept. 23 and 24, 2016. This family-friendly event is an outdoor celebration of artists who created and continue playing classic beach sounds throughout the years—with live performances by The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, Charlie Brown’s Tribute to the Coasters The Tams, Charlie Thomas’ Drifters, and the Panama City POPS Orchestra performing Windborne’s Music of Journey. 

“As a part of our 80th anniversary celebrations, we are excited to bring to the stage the legendary sounds and performers that have helped shape so many memories at our beautiful beaches over the years,” says Visit Panama City Beach President and CEO Dan Rowe. “With this incredible lineup, this year’s Chasin’ the Sun Music Festival will offer an extension of the summer fun that families have enjoyed for generations.” 

The Chasin’ the Sun Music Festival will be held just steps from the famous white sandy beach and beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico, at Aaron Bessant Park Amphitheater. For the first time ever, general admission to the concert will be free to the public, with VIP upgrades available. See below for the festival schedule and information about the headliners.

Friday September 23rd (Gates open at 3:00pm, music begins at 5:00pm)

Headliner: The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Dennis Edwards joined the Temptations in 1968 replacing David Ruffin and sang with the group for many years between 1968 and 1989. From Grammy award-winning hits like “My Girl,” “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone,” “Ball of Confusion” and “I Can’t Get Next To You,” this is sure to be a concert the whole family will enjoy.

The Tams Atlanta’s Tams were among the more popular up-tempo soul groups of the ‘60s and are renowned for their special blend of music that makes up the beach music sound. Their hits “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy,” “Groovin’” and “What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am)” helped make them one of America’s all-time favorite recording acts.

Charlie Thomas’ Drifters – The Drifters, guided by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Charlie Thomas’ sweet musical expressions, continue to remain one of America’s quintessential pop/rock vocal harmony groups. Songs not easily forgotten include “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Under The Boardwalk,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Up On The Roof” and “On Broadway.”

Charlie Brown’s Tribute to the Coasters – Charlie Brown has entertained millions with his tribute to the Coasters, performing a string of the numerous smash hits that rocketed The Coasters to national fame, such as “Smoky Joe’s Café,” “Yakety Yak,” “Charlie Brown,” “Searchin’,” “Down in Mexico,” and the multi-million selling hit, “Poison Ivy.”

The Panama City POPS Orchestra performs Windborne’s Music of Journey
Formed in 1996, The Panama City POPS Orchestra is fortunate to have an accomplished, creative and enthusiastic group of musicians who are conducted by Maestro David Ott. The Orchestra has diverse capabilities and performed with the Windborne’s Music of the Eagles in Panama City Beach three years ago. For this performance of Music of Journey you will hear the hits that made Journey famous like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Wheel in the Sky,” “Faithfully,” “Any Way You Want It”, “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’,” “Open Arms” and many more.

Past lineups included notable acts like Alan Jackson, Chris Stapleton, Maddie & Tae  and Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer band members Nadirah Sakoor, Peter Mayer and Mac McAnally.
